Weddings

We believe that marriage is God’s gift to humankind and reflects God’s hope that we learn to live not just for ourselves, but also for that special person who makes our lives more whole. Christian marriage is a covenant through which two persons are united in a lifelong commitment to respect, support, and love one another. As a congregation that celebrates God’s all-embracing love, we welcome all couples: gay, straight, interfaith, interracial, multi-cultural – we are happy to make the celebration of your love meaningful and sacred.

Members and non-members are welcome to have their weddings in our gorgeous sanctuary. Space for small weddings and for receptions is available at Hartman Hall.

Our Senior Minister presides at all weddings held at Acton Congregational Church. For interfaith couples, a representative of another faith tradition is welcome to co-officiate at the wedding ceremony alongside our minister.

Baptisms

We joyfully embrace Christ’s vision for the Church Universal, welcoming persons of every age, race, gender, ethnicity, sexual identity and socioeconomic background who seek to be baptized.

In our tradition, we practice both adult and infant baptism. We believe that baptism is a Christian, not a denominational sacrament; therefore, this sacrament is administered only once in a person’s life. However, on the second Sunday of January, we observe the liturgical day of the Baptism of Christ and all baptized Christians are invited to renew their baptismal vows.

Baptism is not only a personal celebration in the lives of individuals, but also a central celebration in the life of the local congregation. For this reason, the sacrament of baptism takes place, unless exceptional circumstances demand otherwise, in the presence of the whole community of faith gathered for public worship. The entire congregation rejoices with the newly baptized and commits to encourage them to walk faithfully with Christ.

Memorials & Funerals

We affirm the Christian hope that in life, in death and in life beyond death, we belong to God. The funeral and memorial worship services provide an opportunity for the faith community to celebrate and give thanks for the gift of life, to gather around and console those who mourn and to proclaim our defiant faith that life is stronger than death. With words of hope, prayers, music, silence, tears, thanksgiving and trust in God’s promise of the resurrection, we minister to those who are experiencing the pain of loss and search for a sacred space to honor the life of loved ones.
